Foreign Worker, Hiring, Process

There are many jobs available for foreigners in North Macedonia. But beware! Many rules have been established to protect Macedonian workers, permanent residents, and newcomers. Therefore, it is imperative that employers understand the different types of jobs that can be filled by foreign workers and the rules that govern each one.
Foreign Workers
The Foreign Worker Employment Program was created to allow Macedonian employers to hire foreign workers in the event of a temporary labor shortage. However, it must first be proven that it is impossible to fill these positions with Macedonian citizens or permanent residents.

The ESA defines 4 (four) categories of jobs: jobs with primary, secondary, higher and higher education
From the government's perspective, there are 4 (four) classes of foreign workers.
First category
This category includes all jobs with completed primary education, which includes general workers, production workers in simple processes, hygienists and other categories that do not require appropriate vocational education.
Second category
This category includes all jobs with completed secondary education, which includes various craft workers, various categories of drivers, electricians, plumbers and various categories of construction workers, catering workers and workers in more complex production processes.
Third category
This category includes all jobs with completed secondary and higher education, which includes various technicians, workers in higher sales positions, operators.
Forth Category
This category includes all jobs with higher education, including post-graduate studies, which include various engineers, programmers, professors and other categories of highly skilled workers.
As a general rule, many employers find it more attractive to invest in an international recruitment process for low-wage jobs. In fact, it is easier to obtain permits and is often more profitable, as these workers can be employed for a longer period and even eventually apply for permanent residence.
